Ayurveda recommends Garshan massage as an alternative to oil massage. It is a dry massage with silk gloves. This massage is recommended for reduction of Ama, weight loss and when Kapha is predominant. Garshan massage, just like oil massage, should be performed before bathing. The gentle stimulation of the connective tissue encourages the metabolism and circulation. Impurities are more quickly and easily removed. It also helps in the prevention and reduction of cellulite. The gentle peeling effect thoroughly and easily clears away dandruff. It also helps to reduce cellulite. These Garshan Gloves are produced from high quality raw silk. One size only.
Directions for Use:
Start with the head, neck, shoulders and arms. In contrast to an oil massage, the arms are massaged in the opposite direction. That means begin with the fingers and slowly massage up to the shoulders. The upward stroke should be slightly stronger to increase the stimulating effect on metabolism and Kapha reduction. Circular strokes are always used on the joints. Chest and stomach should be gently massaged using circular strokes (stomach strokes in clockwise direction). Females should not massage the breast area. Use long straight strokes on the back and large, circular strokes on the buttocks. Massage the feet and legs last. Begin with the feet, using long upward strokes. Upward strokes should be stronger and the ankles massaged in a circular motion. Garshan massage should not be performed by those with predominant Vata, directly before or after meals, late in the evening (due to the stimulating effect) or during illness. Women should not perform Garshan massage when pregnant or during menstruation.
